Holroyd Parramatta Goannas Junior AFL Club!

Sydney Harbour Awards 2009

August 25, 2009

Last night six Goannas attended the Sydney Harbour Region award ceremony at Gladesville.

The Goannas would like to congratulate all players who received awards on the night.

Firstly our Junior AFL players received their Outstanding Achievement awards:

  • U9 - Tait Bensemann
  • U10 - Devarshi Naik
  • U12 - Dylan Webb

Our youth players then received their awards. Youth players are voted upon by umpires at each game. The umpires jointly award 3, 2 and 1 points to their Best and Fairest players on the field each week. At the end of the season the points are tallied and awards given to the top performers in each grade. Last night our award recipients were:

  • U13 - Angad Roy 3rd place (18 points)
  • U16 - Marco Coledan 4th place (9 points)
  • U16 - Bryce Mayne 1st place (31 points)

Congratulations to all of our boys who received awards - both junior and youth. A special congratulations to Bryce. There were only two players in all of the Sydney Harbour region who received 30 or more points during the season and eight that received 20 to 29 points. The points were a just reward for the way you play.

Special mention should be made to all of the following Goannas who received B&F points throughout the season while playing for their teams:

U14 Goannas

  • Miguel Limson (11 votes)
  • Jake Nolan (2 points)
  • Chris Wolfe (2 points)
  • Scott Geerke (2 points)
  • Mitchell Bleesing (1 point)
  • Jackson Strahan (1 point)

U16 Goannas

  • Matthew Cahill (5 points)
  • Jarryd Smith (2 points)
  • Joel McInerney (2 points)
  • Brandon Vassallo (2 points)
  • Akram Kassem (2 points)
  • Rhys Clarke (1 point)
  • Ray Khattar (1 point)

Additionally there should be a sound pat on the back for our U16s team. Based on the umpires allocation of points for the following criteria:

  • Player behaviour to umpires
  • Player behaviour to the opposition
  • Coaches behaviour
  • Runners/Water carriers
  • Parent's acceptance of decisions

The HPGoannas U16 team took out the top team average for their competition on an average of 54 points. It's a dodgy measure, but it's something to be proud of - well done team.
